February 3rd is National Golden Retriever Day! With fur and hearts of gold, we love our Goldens here at the Lodge!

Five Things You May Not Have Known About Golden Retrievers

1. They are America’s third most popular dog breed, behind French Bulldogs and Labrador Retrievers.
2. They made history by being the first ever post on Instagram! Kevin Systrom posted a photo of a stray Golden Retriever in Mexico on October 6, 2010.

3. They can run as fast as a wolf with speeds up to 35 miles per hour!
4. Golden Retrievers are “soft-mouthed” meaning they can pick things up and carry them gently, some have even shown they can carry around an egg and not crack it!
5.  Goldens have occupied the White House! Two presidents, Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan both owned Golden Retrievers. President Ford’s dog, Liberty, was a fan favorite and had a rubber stamp of her paw print. Many people would send in letters and requests to receive her “signature”.
